Biography
Lina was born
in Denver and raised in various towns around Texas. Like many past
greats, she got her first taste of singing in the church choir
(alongside her mother) and developed a broad taste in music at
school, including opera, classical and choral! It was during her
school career that Lina first appreciated the operatic quality of
her voice; a talent that won her prizes at local competitions.
As well as
classical musical styles, Lina also developed a love for
the classics of R&B including Diana Ross and the
Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. At the same
time, her mother passed on her love of forties/fifties
jazz and swing, encouraging the young Lina to learn jazz
standards by Billie Holiday and Dina Washington. These
jazz influences have carried through to Lina's own music
and can be clearly heard on her first single "playa no
mo".
Lina's musical career began as a songwriter, building an
impressive catalogue of pop and R&B songs that were
widely published. After many twists and turns, Lina's
career moved into top gear after meeting Travis House
with whom she began co-writing her debut album
'Stranger On Earth'.
On
her debut album, Lina has managed to combine modern R&B
and hip hop with the timeless jazz-era orchestrations to
great effect. We predict a great future for her and wish
her well.
